Weekend Camping at Keweenaw Pennisula, Michigan

Well guys let this be a warning, whatever you do – IF you plan to camp at the Sunset Bay RV Resort & Campground– BRING MOSQUITO REPELLANT! And not just any repellant. Bring any and all you can think of…why?

Because the mosquitoes are so bad they will literally follow you and hundreds will swarm in for attack when you try to keep them away. They’re also pretty big – I’ve never seen anything like it. We had electric tennis rackets, candle repellant, even some spray and they practically flew through the fire just to attack.

But enough of that right. The best part is that you are hearing these beautiful lake waves of Superior during evening and morning. It’s nice to have and very peaceful. We also saw many of the stars very clear along with the Big Dipper each night and the milky way galaxy. Not a cloudy day. The beach trail is quite long with many boulder and rocks so be prepared for an intense and uncasual beach walk.

The site is made up of RVs and very few cabins and the rest being camper tents. We were lucky to get a spot right at the foot of a trail leading to the beach – the only downside is there was a bit of foot traffic since another path was a little blocked. I would go back certainly if I had an RV or stay at a different location. We never attempted to swim since the water is extremely cold but it’s a beautiful relaxing blue that helps the time go by extremely slow for a weekend getaway.

  1. My boyfriend and I just spent 9 months roatripping the US and Canada in an old ambulance… honestly the mosquitos were SO hard to deal with!! Especially in the middle states where it was so hot you had to have the doors open 😂 nightmare!! But would probably do it all over again if I could.

    1. Well, that’ the funny thing. Despite that ordeal you would want to relive that road trip or camping experience. I agree with you. If we ever do decide to return or go elsewhere I hope it gets better but I get the feeling it won’t.
